More Information

Mental health conditions affect 1 in 4 people around the world. The personal, societal and economic burden of mental disorders continues to rise globally. Through decades of research, we have identified important risk factors for mental health, like early stress or neglect, and have built an enormous body of knowledge regarding cognitive and brain changes that go hand in hand with mental illness. Unfortunately, this research has typically taken a high level view - studying groups of people and looking for associations with diagnostic categories like depression. This means that we really struggle to help people in the real world. If we take any individual person, we cannot predict if and when they will develop mental illness or what will cause their specific illness. Predicting who will respond to what treatment is also a challenge. Remarkably, about HALF of people who start an antidepressant won’t get better.

At Neureka, we aim to change that. We want to conduct the largest and most detailed study of YOU that has ever been attempted. By playing games and telling Neureka how you feel, day by day, we aim to figure out how mental health issues evolve over time. Neureka wants to know why some people are more resilient than others, how our mood and behaviour relate to one another and the environment and how they can kick-start vicious cycles that are difficult to break free from.

WHAT’S NEW ON NEUREKA:

Participate in Neureka by taking part in Pattern Wise, a new feature that allows you to track and monitor your habits over time. Do you find yourself checking social media on your phone over and over and OVER again, even though you know there is nothing new to see? Have you ever found it difficult to stick to the limit of that one pint? Perhaps you buy new things that you don’t really need, even though you planned on saving your money? Maybe you diet or exercise or wash your hands in a rigid way that is sometimes harmful to you?

These are all examples of compulsive habits that affect our everyday lives. But what we don’t know, is how and why compulsive habits develop and change over time. With Pattern Wise, you can track any behaviour and zoom in on your moment-to-moment experiences. This digital tool can capture and graphically represent how your chosen behaviour, thoughts, mood and experiences interact over time.

Hundreds of people have chosen to track their habits with Pattern Wise. Join them today to get a valuable insight in to your own behaviour!
