What You’ll Do:

Learning about plants and growing your own fruits and vegetables is one of the most rewarding activities for students.  The science, environmental and community benefits of tending a garden is clearly valuable for all involved.  What are best practices?  How do you create and manage a garden in an urban setting? What supplies are needed?  How do you fit gardening into your school environment? What is hydroponics and how does it work?

Our April 7 Community Conversations will focus on gardening options in schools.  In this Grow Your Own School Garden session we will discuss different approaches and models for building your own gardening program in any school, with a particular focus on urban settings.  We will talk with NY SUNWORKS about their hydroponics program in schools and hear from others about their gardening programs.  We also want to hear your questions and experiences with gardening in school.

What is Included:

  • A free membership to Make: Community
  • Access to discussion forums and community groups
  • Post event access to session recordings

About your Facilitator:

Godwyn Morris, Director of Dazzling Discoveries & Skill Mill NYC, is the moderator for the MAKE Community Conversations series for educators. Megan Nordgren is the Director of Program Development at New York Sun Works and will talk about her work bring hydroponics gardening to urban schools.
