Lessons tailored to grades 1st-5th
We invite all young explorers (ages 6-12) to take part in our Home School Science Academy. Students will participate in hands-on science lessons designed to foster a life-long love for science.

Home School Academy is a drop-off program during the school year, and as such it allows many of our home school students to interact with our educators and other students in a classroom setting. These classes are designed to engage, stimulate, encourage, and challenge young children with hands on exploration using a typical class arrangement.

Classes scheduled for the 3rd Monday and Tuesday of the month:
9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
The same lesson is taught on both days

Cost per session:
$30 members | $35 nonmembers
15% off additional siblings

Additional information:
-Students will need to bring their own lunch
-Students must be at a first grade reading level
-This is a drop-off program

Preregistration is required:
Please ensure your registration forms have been submitted and tickets purchased online, via phone, or in person to secure your child’s spot in the program as space is limited. YOUR CHILD’S SPOT IN THE WORKSHOP IS NOT CONFIRMED UNTIL PAYMENT IS PROCESSED. To register, please complete our registration form and email it to us or bring it with you to the workshop; you can also sign up via our events page.

Cancellation & Refund Policy:
Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance of the event date will incur a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event will incur a 30% administrative fee. There will be no refunds offered for missed classes without notice once class has occurred.

2022-2023 Home School Academy Schedule

August: Habitats and Adaptations for Survival
Get ready to get wild! Students will be exploring why animals live in different habitats, understand how creatures are able to adapt to the environments they live in, investigate terrariums, and learn all about the various adaptations animals have gained to ensure their species survival.

September: Technology Takeover
Technology has taken over how we are able to perform experiments and conduct research. Students will discover why technology is crucial to advancing our knowledge in all areas of Science while working hands-on with a variety of different technologies to learn about different concepts in STEM fields.

October: Laboratory Madness
Are you mad about working in a lab surrounded by chemicals, scientific instruments, and a plethora of experiments? Students will learn all about lab safety, what types of work takes place in a lab, and will participate in a variety of hands-on experiments throughout the day.

November: Adventurous Architects
Explore the science of physics, engineering, and architecture. Students will plan, build, and test structures as they participate in a variety of engineering challenges.

December: Superhero Genetics
Genes play an important role in the makeup of all living things. Students will be looking to superheroes as we explore fundamental aspects of heredity, including alleles, dominance, phenotypes, genotypes, and mutations.

January: Solar Science
Come on a journey through space and learn all about the stars, planets, and thousands of galaxies beyond our solar system. Students will learn about the latest discoveries made, the scientists behind the progress we have made, and what makes our solar system so unique.

February: Forensic Detectives
Can you crack the case? In this mysterious program, students will use forensics, chemistry, physics, and observation skills to investigate a “crime” scene and piece together all of the evidence to solve the mystery!

March: Dive Right In
We are diving deep into the vast field of Marine Biology! Students will learn all about what lies in the deepest depths of the Ocean, discover how to survive if they were stranded out in the Sea, and explore how we can keep our beaches here in Florida clean.

April: Ecology, Pollution, and Conservation
Discover the levels of complexity that form ecosystems, explore how pollution is harming not only Earth but all species living on this planet, and learn about how each and every one of us can make a difference in making our planet a better place to live on.

May: Seed and Soil Science
Ever heard the saying, “April showers bring May flowers?” Well, this month, we will be learning everything from the soil we stand on to the seeds we plant. Students will use a variety of tools to examine plants and seeds, sift through soils to learn about what’s under their feet, and discover how important the field of botany is to not only scientists but our planet Earth.
