The Jackson Arts Market, in partnership with Western Carolina University, will host a ˜Science at the Jackson Arts Market on April 3rd and April 10th, 2022 in Sylva, North Carolina. This free, family-friendly event will teach about the science of local crafts people including glassblowing, gem-mining, pottery making, blacksmithing, mushroom foraging,a nd more!
This event will feature joint presentations with crafts people and university scientists and students. There will be hands-on activities for children and adults to learn the physics of pottery making, the chemistry of metalsmithing, and glass staining. There will be a solar System Walk through downtown Sylva. Children will also design their own science mission patches and participate in a scavenger hunt.
This event is free and open to all.
