More Information
Alamance County Public Libraries is partnering with UNCG’s Three College Observatory to host: A Look Back In Time with James Webb Space Telescope Star Party.
Register here for one of the 50 available spots for this exciting event where we will explore outer space not only with binoculars, small telescopes, but also with the observatory’s Cassegrain reflecting telescope, the one of the largest telescope in the southeast. Each registered participant will receive a packet of fun educational activities that they can do beforehand to help them expound on their understanding of space.
The James Webb Space Telescope will be the focus of our party with how it works, what it will look at, and why it is important to us. These activities will include a constellation scavenger hunt while listening to a storyteller weave the legends of constellations, a galaxy in a jar STEM activity for our teen participants, and space themed trivia with book prizes while we wait to safely view the heavens from within the obseravtory.
For COVID safety, we will be breaking up the group into smaller numbers to keep a safe distance and encouraging the use of masks with hand sanitizer readily available on every table and sanitizing wipes for use between observers using the telescopes and binoculars.
