More Information

Come check out Astronomy on Tap Triangle, our North Carolina chapter of short and engaging talks about astronomy over beer. You will find us in the taproom of Durty Bull Brewing Company in Durham, NC from 7-8:30 PM on Wednesday, April 9th!

In our exciting era of experimental cosmology, scientists are developing new technologies and pushing to the most extreme observing sites in the world to study the universe’s most ancient light. New telescopes and cameras harness cryogenic cooling power to deploy pixels chilled to near absolute zero to study the remnants of the Big Bang. Duke Professor Eve Vavagiakis will introduce the cosmic microwave background and shine some light on how we use the universe as a laboratory for fundamental physics. She will discuss the Simons Observatory, CCAT Observatory, and what it’s like deploying cutting edge technologies on ancient stratovolcanoes in the Chilean Atacama Desert.

Don’t forget to get there on time for a quick round of astronomy trivia and special prizes!

There is always lots of time to ask questions and interact with the presenters and other scientists who inevitably stick around for the beer. We can’t wait to see you there!
