**Come check out a special edition of Astronomy on Tap Triangle on April 1st, taking place as part of the NC Science Festival at Fullsteam Brewery’s new location at Durham’s American Tobacco Campus!**The evening kicks off with astronomy-themed trivia and a prize giveaway, followed by a short interactive demonstration on infrared light and radiation, and a publicly accessible talk from NASA Mission Systems Engineer Mike Menzel. No background in science required, and this event is open to adults and kids alike! Doors open at 6:30pm, the event starts at 7:00pm.
What does it take to successfully build and launch a $10 billion space telescope with over 300 single points of failure? Join us as Mike Menzel recounts the extraordinary journey of designing and building the largest telescope ever launched into space, its nail-biting deployment and operation at a station one million miles from Earth, and the groundbreaking scientific discoveries it continues to deliver. Mike Menzel is NASA Lead Mission Systems Engineer for the James Webb Space Telescope.
Please note the different location!! AoT will take place in Fullsteam ATC‘s 100-seat theater, where attendees will get an exclusive sneak peek at Fullsteam’s exciting new home, which is still under construction! Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase in the theater. Please note that Fullsteam does not sell food and outside food cannot be brought into the building, so plan accordingly. Seating is limited to 100 guests and is first come, first served, so we recommend arriving early!
Further, there is a Durham Bulls game happening the same evening as AoT, so we strongly recommend arriving to downtown Durham early and giving yourself extra time to park. The North and South ATC parking garages near American Tobacco Campus will be operating as paid lots during the game. However, if you park there, simply tell the parking attendant “here for Fullsteam” and you should not have to pay. There are also many other parking options throughout downtown Durham if you prefer to avoid the garages. Street parking and additional city-owned lots are available nearby.
We can’t wait to see you there!
