More Information

Our next event will take place on Monday, April 28th at Culture Café Leidse Lente at 20:00 CEST!

Join us for a journey among the stars: From the very first stars to the oldest stars in the Milky Way. In this event we will host Piyush Sharda and Anthony Brown, both from Leiden University.

As always, there will be fun games with which you can test your knowledge and try to win cool science prizes!

———————————————————————-

Piyush Sharda: “The First Stars” Piyush Sharda is an Oort Fellow at Leiden Observatory and works on understanding how stars form in different environments. He uses a combination of theoretical models and 3D simulations to look at how stars form and grow in the Milky Way as compared to the earliest epochs in the Universe when the first generation of stars formed. He will discuss the formation of the (ever elusive) First Stars, and whether we have any hopes of detecting them in our lifetime.

Anthony Brown: “ * Uncovering the oldest stars in the Milky Way * ” Anthony Brown is associate professor at Leiden Observatory and leads the data processing for the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission which maps the locations, motions and astrophysical properties of over two billion stars in our home galaxy, the Milky Way. He will discuss what we have learned about the formation story of the Milky Way from the data collected by the Gaia spacecraft.
