More Information
Temperatures can soar above 120 degrees in the shade in the Sonoran Desert, and water is rarely available. For the life that calls this and other deserts worldwide home, adaptations to extreme heat and aridity are essential. This class will explore the different strategies employed by both native and exotic desert animals, plants and an assortment of other organisms. From behavior to biochemistry the course will study the adaptations that allow desert dwellers to survive and even thrive in a dry heat that to us feels like a blow torch. Instructed by Ken Sweat. Garden admission included with class purchase.
