This course introduces students to text-based programming using Java. The course is divided into a series of modules that cover fundamental concepts of programming that can be applied to any programming language. Students are also introduced to specific features of the Java programming language. Students work on hands-on coding in each class and develop a major project that is due during the last week of the course. The major project encourages students to put together all the concepts taught in the course to create a fun and imaginative project of their choice. The modules in this course cover: Data Types and Operations, Control Statements, Methods, Arrays, Objects and Classes, Strings, User Interfaces, and Applets.
The class is conducted online using video conferencing tools. Login information to the online course portal will be emailed 2 days before the course start date.
The 12-week long course includes:
- 1 hour of live video-based class per week with the instructor
- 24x7 access to course portal for accessing material covered in class, homework, course objectives and course progress tracking
