Get out and explore the more remote parts of the park with Ranger and hunt for the many cacti species that call the park home. The hike is rated as difficult covering 5.2 miles on rocky and sandy wash gaining 367ft of elevation through some of the more remote and lush sections of the park. The Malpais hills and saguaro will tower above you. Hikers must bring 2-3 liters of water and wear supportive shoes. There is no water or bathrooms at the trailhead and hikers should have 7 dollars exact change for the iron ranger at the trailhead. To register, please call the Nature Center (or Discovery Center at LP or Visitor Center at HRP) at (602) 506-2930 ext. 7 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.
