More Information

Come see the glory of an Arizona Sunset in our least developed park! Spur Cross Ranch, by design, remains the county’s least developed park in order to offer a glimpse into the beauty of Arizona’s wildlands fairly close to the urban heart of its largest city. This time of year, sunset occurs conveniently early in the evening as well! Today, let’s combine the two! Come walk the short (0.6-mile loop) Fairy Duster trail to circle hilltop and watch the sun fade tonight! Stay afterwards to join the more adventurous Creatures of the Night hike! (Separate registration required) Closed toe shoes and water bottle required. Flashlight recommended as it will be getting dark as we return. As it won’t yet be fully dark, we should be okay as long as some of us have lights. MEETING LOCATION: Spur Cross Parking Lot Precise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ger5NxXAdmpYJMLm7 *Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH only (exact change appreciated). Credit/Debit/Mobile not accepted. Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center (or Discovery Center at LP or Visitor Center at HRP) at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 10/23/25. PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
