More Information
National Take a Hike Day is celebrated each year on November 17 in recognition of the National Trails System Act of 1968. This Act designated a series of scenic, historic and recreation trails in both backcountry and urban areas in an effort to provide outdoor opportunities for the public. Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department encourage you to connect with nature on a ranger-led hike, on this day or any day, to explore and learn about our beautiful Sonoran Desert. To ensure everyone can enjoy this nationally recognized day, the regular day-use entry fee for all of Maricopa County’s regional parks will be waived on November 17. This hike will begin on a portion of Overton trail that will connect onto a small segment of Go John trail and will then connect to Clay Mine to create a 2-mile loop. The terrain is rated easy-moderate and ranges from even and smooth with small to medium rocks underfoot. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water will be available at the Nature Center near the Trailhead. MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 11/15/25.
