More Information
Join Ranger Derik on a moderate hike to watch the sunset and hunt for scorpions in the desert. : Ranger Derik leads this hike to watch the sun set behind the mountains and the nocturnal animals come out. We will listen for coyote and owl calls and watch for bat silhouettes against the dimly lit sky. Bring your blacklight and regular flashlight to look for other evening critters such as scorpions, kangaroo rats, stink bugs and more. The route uses both the Spur Cross and Tortuga trails for 3.5 miles and will gain 410 ft over the length of hike. The terrain ranges from even and smooth to uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms are available at the covered tables but there is no water in the park so please bring plenty with you. Please bring $3 exact cash for the self-pay station or your annual pass to display on your vehicle.
