Join Ranger Jacque on this guided nighttime adventure to search for scorpions along the trail using UV lights and learn about their unique adaptations. Discover the hidden world of scorpions on this Scorpion Safari! The adventure begins at the Four Peaks trailhead staging area, where restrooms and water fountains are available. The program starts with a 15- minute overview on scorpion identification and behavior before we head out in search of these fascinating arachnids. We’ll walk about one mile along Shallmo Trail, using black lights to spot glowing scorpions along the way. Be prepared for an hour and a half outdoors on a trail that is not steep, but very sandy. Wear closed-toe shoes, bring a water bottle, and dress appropriately. Don’t forget your black light for the best scorpion-spotting experience! PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
