Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Safari (Session 1)

Join Ranger Nikki on a slow-paced walk to search for scorpions and other nocturnal creatures. Ranger Nikki will lead you on an easy, family-friendly walk to search for bark, striped-tail and giant hairy scorpions. We will also be on the lookout for nocturnal critters such as scorpions, bats, owls, tarantulas, kangaroo rats, stink bugs and more. The route uses Gila Trail, a ½ mile loop that is rated Barrier-free, with a compacted dirt surface and no obstacles. The terrain is level and appropriate for wide-wheeled strollers. Bring your blacklight to view scorpions and a regular flashlight to view other desert nightlife. No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the Nature Center and picnic area (on your way to the trailhead) and a portable restroom is available at the Trailhead. Please bring $7 exact cash for the self-pay station or your annual pass to display on your vehicle.   Please note: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events.
