Our program will be a presentation by Dr. Steve Levin from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Among his roles at NASA/JPL, Dr. Levin is the Project Scientist for the Juno spacecraft and is the Lead Scientist for the Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT). Dr. Levin’s presentation will be titled,  “Juno and GAVRT: Science and Education.”

The Juno spacecraft has been orbiting Jupiter since 2016 and has revolutionized our understanding of the giant planet. There have been far too many discoveries from Juno to present them all in a single talk, but Dr. Levin will cover some of the highlights. The Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT) project is a partnership between NASA/JPL and the Lewis Center for Educational Research, in which students and others from all over the world use a 34-meter radio telescope to do real science and learn something in the process. Dr Levin will talk a bit about GAVRT and its connection to Juno as well. Questions are encouraged. He will provide an introductory slide where he gives the audience an idea of what questions to ask, but it includes some information about what research he has done and how he has done it.
