Join Susan O’Connor from the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association for the Sundial Activity. This hands-on experience allows children to learn about an ancient method of telling time. Long before digital clocks and mobile phones were invented, people used sundials. A sundial typically consists of a round plate with a vertical stick, known as a gnomon, which casts a shadow on the dial. The sundial plate features numbers representing each hour of the day, and the gnomon’s shadow indicates the time.
