Reef Ecologic is a Townsville based firm providing innovative and sustainable solutions to issues facing reef ecosystems worldwide. Reef ecologic not only conduct monitoring and research of the reef ecosystem, but also involve themselves in community education and training programs. It is their focus on holistic solutions to these reef issues that has led to the development of citizen science initiatives including the utilisation of iNaturalist app as a means of engaging the community in a range of different projects and initiatives.

The Sharks and Rays project encompasses the Queensland coast, from Brisbane to the Cape with any residents or visitors encouraged to contribute to one or all of these projects. These projects aim to bring to light the diversity and value of the marine ecosystem along the Queensland coast as well as educate the community on marine life along the coast.
