Solar Radio Burst Tracker
Compose a space-based Type III solar radio burst catalog
- Ongoing through April 25, 2025 at 10:00 PM
More Information
Type III solar radio bursts are among the most common signals from the Sun, generated by energetic electron beams traveling through the solar corona and interplanetary space. These bursts are valuable for studying solar activity and space weather.
Since 2020, ESA’s Solar Orbiter mission has been using the Radio and Plasma Waves (RPW) instrument to collect more than four years of data. However, identifying Type III bursts remains challenging due to their varying brightness and complex shapes. While automated detection methods exist, they often struggle with faint or irregular bursts.
That’s where human expertise comes in! We aim to create the first comprehensive catalog of Type III bursts detected from space. This catalog will provide detailed time and frequency information for each burst, improving our understanding of solar activity and space weather while also enhancing future automated detection methods for Type III bursts.
