Crash & Go Bots: Build, Code, and Battle
Get ready to build and battle 3D printed robots! In this three-week series, participants ages 12–18 will go from a box of parts to a fully functional, Wi-Fi-controlled wrestling robot. Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned hobbyist, this program is designed to be a hands-on, approachable entry into the world of combat robotics and engineering.
What We’ll Do
This isn’t your average robotics class. We focus on real-world skills that professional engineers and developers use every day:
Week 1: The Build & The Brain – Assemble your robot’s hardware and dive into Arduino C++ programming to upload its first set of instructions.
Week 2: Engineering for the Win – Use 3D printing concepts and recycled materials to design custom wedges and protective armor. We’ll modify our code to optimize speed and handling for the arena.
Week 3: The Web Interface & Tournament – Learn how to use HTML and CSS to build and style a custom remote control that runs right on your phone or tablet. We’ll finish with a friendly, non-destructive wrestling tournament.
Why Join?
Take It Home: Unlike many programs where you have to leave the tech behind, you keep your robot. Once the class is over, you can continue to tinker, recode, and upgrade your bot at home.
Real Skills: You’ll gain practical experience in coding, wireless networking, and mechanical design.
Expert Guidance: Led by Joah Tang, developer and instructor for the non-profit Tech Rockstar Academy. With a decade of experience as a Youth Library Assistant and projects published on Instructables and Tinkercad, Joah focuses on making high-level tech feel like a fun, creative challenge.
STEM Spotlights: Each week, you’ll hear from a visiting professional about how these skills are used in real-world STEM careers.
