More Information

Let the birds come to you! Bring your favorite camp chair, binoculars, a little refreshment, and just enjoy birding as the time slips by. You will only have to walk a short distance on the handicapped accessible Canopy Trail to a spot where feeders bring the birds up close. A knowledgeable guide will help identify species. The area is open for birding at any time but the guide will only be available during these hours. Cost: Free, must RSVP Rating: 1 Location: Canopy Trail head on Owl Road Transportation: None Meal: None Trip Guide: Kristen RothrockFor the last twenty years, I have maintained a beginner’s mind while birding. My inspiration came from my mother who enjoyed every bird movement out the kitchen window. It wasn’t until I was in Costa Rica that I learned from touring birders that Arizona was a birding hotspot. From then on, from my own kitchen window in Arizona, I discovered the treasure of birding my yard. I started birding passionately. I joined Audubon and learned from local experts. As a retired school teacher, I continue to encourage learning by observation and inquiry. I love how birds keep us connected to nature.         Part of the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival It’s the 2024 Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival! In 2024, join us as we explore the theme of migration and its impact on riparian areas in our environment. Our keynote speaker, Richard Crossley, will lead discussions, and the featured bird for the year is the common black hawk. The Free Family Nature Festival at the Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival will be in the lagoon area on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm. There will be armchair birding and guided bird walks all across the Verde Valley from April 25th - 28th that you do need to register for.
