Field Trip/Workshop Combo Join Eric Moore from The Lookout (formerly Jay’s Bird Barn) for a Birding 101 class and a short field trip designed specifically for beginning birders. Learn basic bird identification tips that will help you quickly master bird identification like the pros. This introductory class also includes a component on optics basics. Along with a good bird book, binoculars are the primary tool for bird watching. Participants will have the opportunity to field test a variety of different binocular brands and models and learn from hands-on experience what type of binoculars meet their needs. Loaner bincoculars are available. A more thorough workshop on optics follows this class and is free to attend. His interest in birds began when very young. By the time he was five years old he was fascinated with birds and watched them at his parents’ yard in Massachusetts. At the age of 13 he joined the Tucson Audubon Society. When he lived in Utah he participated in the Utah County Birders Club . He has been associated with the Prescott Audubon Society and has served on the board of directors. He has led bird walks, been in charge of the Spring Migratory Bird Count, and has participated in the Christmas Bird Counts spanning 30 years. He is an excellent birder. Birding is more than a hobby for him–it is a passion. Website           Part of the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival It’s the 2024 Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival! In 2024, join us as we explore the theme of migration and its impact on riparian areas in our environment. Our keynote speaker, Richard Crossley, will lead discussions, and the featured bird for the year is the common black hawk. The Free Family Nature Festival at the Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival will be in the lagoon area on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm. There will be armchair birding and guided bird walks all across the Verde Valley from April 25th - 28th that you do need to register for.
