More Information

Dr. Cory will delight you with her photos and research of the Family Corvidae, and her research with Shade; the African Raven and her wild kin. Emily is accompanied, of course, by her inquisitive African White-necked Raven, “Shade.” Cost: $15 Transportation: Walk or Shuttle Speaker: Emily Faun CoryEmily was born and raised in Northern Arizona, playing in the wilds while working with hot air balloons with her parents for the family business, Northern Light Balloon Expeditions. She attended University of Arizona, where she accidentally earned far too many degrees, which include a Professional Science Master’s in Applied Bioscience, an M.A. in Psychology (studying raven intelligence), and a PhD in Psychology with a minor in Astrobiology. During these years she interned at Reid Park Zoo and at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. In addition, she volunteered for the Desert Museum for 14 years, in departments such as Raptor Free Flight and the Interpretive Animal Collection. She has traveled the world studying animal behavior, including Rwanda watching the mountain gorillas of Virunga National Park. She is now back home with the family business, plotting new research for the future.         Part of the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival It’s the 2024 Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival! In 2024, join us as we explore the theme of migration and its impact on riparian areas in our environment. Our keynote speaker, Richard Crossley, will lead discussions, and the featured bird for the year is the common black hawk. The Free Family Nature Festival at the Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival will be in the lagoon area on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm. There will be armchair birding and guided bird walks all across the Verde Valley from April 25th - 28th that you do need to register for.
