Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival: Sedona Wetlands & Red Rock State Park with Steven Prager & Melissa Fratello Field Trip

We will start the day at Red Rock State Park, getting in before the park opens with Tori Marshall, Ranger. Tori will lead us in about a 4 hour program including an introductory movie about cleaning up that area of Oak Creek and possibly meeting Moonlight, the Owl. We will then head off to the Sedona Wetlands. The use of man-made water treatment plants as birding sites by creating artificial wetlands has proven to be the source of excellent birding across the country, especially when they are planned to provide rich habitat. The City of Sedona, in keeping with the natural beauty of the area, has not only taken care of the basic needs of the public but has done so with nature in mind. This will be followed by lunch. The festival, presented each April by Friends of the Verde River, is a purpose-driven community benefit organization and 501© 3 non-profit working to preserve one of the last perennial flowing rivers in the American Southwest.
