Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival: West Clear Creek Field Trip

This trip will be taking us into a lush riparian habitat. West Clear Creek is one of several perennial spring-fed streams that flow from the Mogollon Rim into the Verde River. We will walk through a Forest Service campground with lush riparian growth and into upland desert scrub following the creek. Hopeful species include summer and western tanagers, orioles, yellow warblers, flycatchers and maybe even a western screech owl. Pit toilet available at the parking lot. Later she became interested in birds, then butterflies and now, natural history in general. She leads bird and butterfly walks for the local chapters of the Audubon Society and for Arizona State Parks. She also works on botanical illustrations at the Desert Botanical Garden and has provided photographs for several publications. She loves to spend time with her husband, their grown kids and grandchildren. In 2024, join us as we explore the theme of migration and its impact on riparian areas in our environment. Our keynote speaker, Richard Crossley, will lead discussions, and the featured bird for the year is the common black hawk. The Free Family Nature Festival at the Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival will be in the lagoon area on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm. There will be armchair birding and guided bird walks all across the Verde Valley from April 25th - 28th that you do need to register for.
