Bartlesville Astronomical Society Monthly Meeting

Topic for April:  Marine Navigation and Astronomy

Astronomy has long been an important tool for navigation, especially marine navigation.  The April program will explain the connection between the two and how simple navigation by the stars developed into a detailed, accurate and reliable process enhanced by the invention of such tools as the sextant and the chronometer.  Basic use of a sextant as well as timekeeping will be explained to demonstrate the methods for determining latitude and longitude from simple astronomical observations.

Bartlesville Astronomical Society meetings feature presentations on a variety of astronomy and space science topics. Our meetings are open to the public and guests are always welcome.
Setup/social time begins at 6:30 pm and the meeting starts at 7:00 pm.  We also host the meeting on Zoom. in addition to in-person.  Club members are sent the Zoom link.  If you aren't a Club member and would like to have the Zoom link sent to you, please email bvilleastro@gmail.com.
