More Information

Join our state's zoo in conservation innovation every Sat. in April!

  • Sat. April 6: Meet a scientist, Dr. Corinne Kendall whose conservation work with endangered African vultures has been featured in National Geographic. Take our STEAM challenge to help track vultures by designing and building a backpack to hold a radio telemetry device for one our flamingo vultures (we painted some plastic flamingos to look like the various species of vultures.) You can learn about the challenges that vultures face by throwing some vulture “vomit” (slime) at various targets.
  • Sat. April 13:  Celebrate National Frog Month and learn about our zoo’s conservation work in NC to help rebuild the population of endangered gopher frogs. Take our STEAM challenge by designing and constructing a space for frog eggs so they can safely develop into frogs. You can test your listening skills to identify frogs and toads by their calls. Meet some amphibians (including the chance to see a gopher frog).
  • Sat. April 20: Join our Zoo’s Party for the Planet to celebrate Earth Day! Learn how you can help our threatened native pollinators by making seed balls and monarch butterfly life cycle bracelets. See butterflies and their eggs up close under our video microscope.
  • Sat. April 27: Participate in the NC BioBlitz by learning how to use community science to identify and report wildlife sightings. Meet some native NC wildlife throughout the day. Learn about participating in the ecoExplore program where your observations can earn cool prizes.
