More Information
Day of the Event
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired will be using portable tents set up for the day of the event with TVs on carts in the tents for viewing.
We are planning to use the telescope gifted to us for this event, but we will need to purchase a video camera and use an HDMI splitter and run it to 3-4 different TVs to allow our students with low vision to access.
We plan to use the Light/Sound devices by plugging 1 into a large speaker or amp and broadcast, we will have someone narrate what is happening.
We will have cards with holes (build foam core box) for viewing
We have 2 projector lenses for low vision students (build box)
Ambient music (ie. Holst the Planets, other space music) Students will be helping with music.
Eclipse/space themed food and snacks prepared by our students
Leading Up to the Eclipse
Countdown timer to the event. We can display and read it on the morning announcements
We are creating tactile graphics using Swell paper, maybe 8-10 copies for students to have a tactual experience
Eclipse bulletin boards in buildings. The one in Career Ed could spotlight Careers @ NASA.
Star stories (book list and reading event leading up to the big day). A variety of eclipse, moon, sun and star stories are available at all levels in the school library.
Decorating for event: Eclipse art, the Art department could create some Moon-themed art that we could display the day of.
We are going to have an announcement weekly about solar or eclipse facts starting next week if possible.
The Coffee Shop is going to add a Solar or moon-themed drink special to the menu.
We will have a door decorating contest.
The AV students will create a 15-second spot advertising the event that we can send to families.
