NC Science Trail: Kayaking 101

To kick off National Safe Boating Week 2024, the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, the North Carolina chapter of the American Canoe Association, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary are hosting beginners’ kayaking safety programs across the state! Join us at Lake James State Park for this unique opportunity that will introduce you to flat-water kayaking at the Paddy’s Creek Access. Participants will learn about different kayak types, kayaking safety, and basic paddling skills taught by volunteer ACA-certified kayak instructors. A kayak, life jacket, and paddle will be provided for participants, but you can bring your own kayak or equipment if you would like. Participants must be at least 14 years old. Registration is required, and the program costs $15 plus tax per participant. Typically, this class would cost $50-$100!
