More Information

Old lead service lines remain a public health challenge across U.S. cities.
Philadelphia’s Water Department maintains a Service Line Material Map using historical records, inspections, permits, and partial testing—but records are sometimes incomplete or outdated.

This citizen science project invites Philadelphia residents to help improve the accuracy of these records by checking the material of the water service line where it enters their home and reporting what they find. Your contribution helps the city better understand where lead or galvanized service lines may still exist, supports planning for future replacements, and protects public health.

Even confirming non-lead pipes is valuable. Every verified report strengthens the map.
