More Information

Join Ranger Jacque for a morning fitness hike amidst the beautiful scenery of Spur Cross and Elephant Mountain. Are you looking to do a difficult, challenging hike, but don’t want to go by yourself? Join Ranger Jacque for a 6.5-mile hike on the extremely difficult, but incredibly scenic, Spur Cross, Tortuga, and Elephant Mountain trails. We’ll keep an eye out for morning critters as we go. If you’re doing the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, this is a great way to knock some miles off! Trail conditions are rated extremely difficult, so expect nearly continuous loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. This is not recommended for inexperienced or beginning hikers. Please bring plenty of water (at least four liters recommended plus electrolyte packets) and snacks, and wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear. Proper clothing (layers), sunscreen, and hat are strongly recommended. Trekking poles will be useful. It is also a good idea to leave some extra water in your vehicle for your return. Restrooms are available at the trailhead. Please, no pets. MEETING LOCATION: Main trailhead at covered picnic tables *Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH only (exact change appreciated). Credit/Debit/Mobile not accepted. Limit 10 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 12/1/24.
