More Information

Join Ranger Jacque for an insider’s glimpse into the world of Sonoran Desert plants on this easy-moderate sunset hike. Join us for a fascinating ranger-led hike as we uncover the secrets of Sonoran Desert plants and explore how they artfully master their unique landscape. In this two-hour experience, we’ll dive into desert plants, discovering the ingenious ways they flourish through months of drought and extreme temperatures. From hidden leaves to specialized root structures, we’ll realize that what lies beneath the surface is just as important as what meets the eye in this desert ecosystem. As we walk the Cinch trail out and back (approx. 2 miles total; trail may be rocky and uneven in some areas), we’ll gain insights into the interconnectedness of life in the desert, and reflect on how resilience in nature mirrors our own ability to adapt to stress and challenges. Bring plenty of water, sturdy shoes suitable for outdoors, layers for varying temperatures, and sun protection. Restrooms are available at the trailhead where we will meet. PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park. MEETING LOCATION: Four Peaks Staging Area Map of meeting location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/C2i2RZE3QidkdgcP7 Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 3 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 08/01/25.
