More Information
This pioneering citizen science project investigates the correlation between ionospheric electromagnetic disturbances and the behavioral patterns of Melipona scutellaris, the native stingless bee from Northeastern Brazil.
Using a VLF radio receiver (INSPIRE VLF-3), a microphone inside the hive, and synchronized video and audio monitoring systems, we aim to detect anomalies in bee activity in response to atmospheric electromagnetic noise — including anthropogenic interference such as solar panels, energy inverters, and urban electromagnetic pollution.
The project is located in Bezerros, Pernambuco, Brazil, and combines astronomy, radio science, ecology, and environmental education. Although still in the pre-data collection phase, the technical structure and observation protocols are ready, and the system is under calibration.
This project is open to partnerships with entomologists, radio scientists, ecologists, and citizen scientists interested in pollinators, environmental monitoring, and interdisciplinary research.
