Joro spiders (Trichonephila clavata) are large orb-weavers native to Asia, introduced to the US, particularly Georgia, in 2014. They are most visible from September to October when they create large golden webs in trees, on powerlines, and on homes. Researchers study these spiders to understand their spread and environmental impact. Joro Watch enables citizen scientists to report sightings using the EDDMapS platform, helping map the species’ occurrence and distribution for research.
