More Information

Join Ranger Eric for the 7.8-mile Malpais loop, one of the most scenic hikes in the Valley, which incorporates the Rock Peak Wash, Malpais, and San Tan Trails and travels below the long line of spectacular cliffs of the Malpais Hills. It is rated as moderate to difficult, but does not have much in the way of inclines; however, it does involve hiking long distances in sandy washes with not much shade. Along the way, we will learn about the flora, fauna, and ecology of the Sonoran Desert. Please dress in layers, wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water (at least 3 liters recommended) and snacks for yourself. The hike takes at least 5 hours to complete. For those of you participating in the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, this is a great way to work towards your goal! The challenge runs from Nov.1-Feb. 8. For more details on the program, please visit this link: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/things-to-do/activity/100-miles-in-100-days-challenge/ MEETING LOCATION: Rock Peak Wash Trailhead at the south end of the park.
