Join Ranger Nikki on a moderate hike to explore our beautiful Sonoran Desert and get a good workout. Join Ranger Nikki on a moderate terrain hike to get a workout and explore our desert for plants and animals. The halfway point of the loop provides a great view of the Marcus Landslide, a granite avalanche that slid from McDowell Mountain approximately 500,000 years ago. The route makes a 9-mile loop using Pemberton and Tonto Tank Trails. The terrain is mostly flat and even but has some areas of slight elevation gain and rocky, uneven surfaces. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water (recommended 3 liters and a source of electrolytes), a hat and sunscreen. Hiking poles are helpful for the distance.
