More Information
Join Ranger Jacque for an early morning walk in search of wildlife. Enjoy a roughly 3-mile hike on the scenic Ford Canyon trail. Along the way, we’ll talk about the main reasons why the Sonoran Desert is the most biodiverse desert in North America (if not the world). We’ll look at some desert plants and learn about the adaptations they’ve made to survive here. And, of course, all the while we’ll be on the lookout for wildlife like mule deer, javelina, squirrels, rabbits, various species of birds and perhaps a reptile or two. Trail is rated easy-moderate, with some loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Restrooms are available near the trailhead. No pets, please. For those participating in the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge (Nov. 1-Feb. 8), this hike is a great way to work towards your goal! For more information about the challenge, visit https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/things-to-do/activity/100-miles-in-100-days-challenge/. Meeting Location: Area 9 (near restrooms) Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 5 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 11/22/24 Free with Park Fee
